Web Design Leads: How to Find Clients Who Need a Website

By Shivaraj, Founder, loclay · Updated

The short version

The easiest web design clients to find are local businesses with a Google Maps listing and no website. loclay searches a trade across your cities, lets you keep only the businesses without a site, and for the rest finds the owner's published email and phone on their current site.

Two kinds of web design leads

Treat them differently:

  • No website at all: the strongest signal. Pitch a first site, usually by phone, since there's no email to find
  • An existing site: pitch a redesign or new pages to the owner, whose email loclay finds when the site publishes it

Find businesses with no website

Pick a business type and your cities, run the search, then tick "No website" on the results. Sort by review count: a busy business with no site is losing customers it already has. See the full guide to finding businesses without websites for the manual method too.

Reach owners of businesses that have a site

For businesses with a website, loclay reads the homepage plus the contact, about and team pages for the owner's name and every published email and phone, each labelled with the page it came from. loclay doesn't judge whether a site looks dated; that's your call when you open it.

A loclay lead for a plumbing business: the owner, Maria Chen, labelled 'Found on About page'; her direct email, 'Found on Team page'; the main phone, 'From Google Maps'; a shared info@ inbox, 'Found on Contact page'; and the four website pages the AI read.

Pitch with what you can see

"You have 90 reviews and no website, so people who find you on Google have nowhere to go" beats a portfolio link. Keep the first offer small and fixed-price, like a one-page site with their services, hours and reviews.

Questions

How do web designers find clients?

Local businesses with no website are the easiest to approach. Search a trade in your cities on Google Maps, or in loclay with the "No website" filter, and call with a specific, small offer.

Does loclay tell me if a website is outdated?

No. It shows whether a business has a website and finds the owner's published contacts on it; judging the design is up to you.

Can I try it free?

Yes. Every new account gets 50 leads free, once, with no card needed.
